This knife features gorgeous genuine Abalone for the handle material. -- Genuine Remington hand made cutlery. When one thinks of Remington, you think of a tradition of quality and this knife is no exception. -- This knife is part of the "Abalone Collection" series and is made with the same high quality craftsmanship as previous Remington knives and features genuine Abalone handles, 440 Stainless Steel Blades, Blade Imprint and Remington Black Display box. Abalone handles are no longer being made due to U. S. production requirements. In order to produce these highly collectable and classically beautiful patterns, Remington is manufacturing the "Abalone Collection" knives off shore. Other features include nickel silver bolsters, nickel silver inlay stripe and brass liners. A certificate of authenticity is included. -- For those of you who are not familiar with abalone... Abalone are shellfish of the univalve family, meaning they only have one shell, unlike bivalves such as clams that consist of two shells. Wild abalone appear in many different varieties. Most abalone live in shallow waters and grow slowly. The most common species is the red abalone (H. rufescens). Red abalone are also the largest and can grow to 12 inches and weigh 8 lbs. The inner shell of abalone, which has an iridescent green, blue, or pink sheen, is a source of mother-of-pearl. -- A great every day carry knife for the pocket or purse and certainly a candidate for someone's fine knife collection. -- A special purchase allows me to offer this knife at additional savings.
